Create new artwork

Getting started

From the Dokio dashboard, you can access your templates by either clicking on 'Create' from the menu or via the 'View templates' quicklinks.

Once you've found the template you want to use, just click on the template to open a preview modal. From there, you can create a new draft and you'll be taken to the draft editor.

Draft editor

The draft editor is made up of two panels. On the left side, you’ll find the editing panel where you can edit content. On the right side is the artwork preview that will update automatically as you edit content.

Editing panel

This editing panel contains all the editable modules and fields for your artwork. This includes items such as image selection, headlines and calls-to-action. The list of modules will vary depending on the template or preset you’re using.

Artwork preview

The artwork preview panel is a live preview of the artwork you’re creating. You’ll notice this updates automatically; every time you make a change in the editing panel, you’ll see this change reflected in the artwork preview.

Below the preview are zoom controls that allow you to inspect every detail of your artwork. By default, the artwork loads to fit the window, but never larger than 100% of the artwork size. You can change the zoom level as requiredBy clicking and dragging, you can pan around the artwork.

The basics of creating artwork

First thing’s first: give your document a meaningful title (i.e. not “Artwork 1, 2, 3...”). This will help you later when you have lots of similar-looking artworks.

You’ll notice there’s no “save” button in Dokio—that’s because Dokio saves everything you do automatically. Accidentally close your browser? No problem. When you open it again, Dokio will have saved your work in your Drafts tab.

Next, you can enter the content into the editing panel. This may be as simple as selecting an option from a drop-down list, or entering some text into a field. Options will vary from template to template, preset to preset.

For example, you may be required to pick a background image from a drop-down list. This list will contain a curated selection of pre-approved images to make it easy to choose the most appropriate image for your needs. Similarly, a text drop-down list allows you to choose from pre-approved text content.

In some cases, you may notice that when you select certain options, some content is automatically repositioned. This happens in order to ensure the design remains balanced. Dokio will also, at times, automatically resize text to fit the artwork. However, it’s good practice to keep headlines short and sharp.

A good headline is about 80 characters long.

It’s good to note that not all templates will have the same options or features.

When you’re satisfied with how your artwork is shaping up, take some time to check your work for errors. Check your spelling and grammar, and double-check that your information is factually correct and up-to-date.

At this point, you can either select 'Save draft & exit' to save your work or 'Export' it to download, send or order from Dokio.
