Create merge tags
There are two types of merge tags that can be used in a template: a set that's manually added (referred to as 3rd party merge tags) or the Dokio merge tag that's created from a user's profile particulars or contacts. The following steps describe how to create 3rd party merge tags to use in templates.
Only users with admin rights can apply the following steps.
The first step in using merge tags in templates is to create a set or sets. Once a set is created, merge tags can then be added to it.
Steps to Create a New Merge Tag Set
- Go to Admin from the main menu.
- Select Templates.
- Select Merge tags from the sub-menu.
- Click on Create new merge tag set +.
- Enter the name of the new set and provide a description.
- Select Create merge tag set to save it.
- To create tags for use in a template, select the merge tag set you have created.
- Click on Create new.
- Enter the name of the tag and provide a description.
- Add the tag with the allowed prefixes.
- Select Create merge tag to save the details.
NOTE: The name used for the merge tag and the merge tag itself can only be entered once. Duplicates will cause an error message causing the same merge tag or merg
The name of the merge tag set will display in the editor as part of the merge tag. However, during export, only the merge tag string will be visible in the code.
Once you've created your merge tag set(s) with the merge tags you need, the next step is to activate it in the template where it will be used.
Steps to add merge tag sets to a template
- Navigate to the template settings and scroll down to the Merge tags section.
- Choose the desired merge tag set(s) from the selection box. Each selected set will appear as individual groups in the merge tag dropdown option within the text field editor. Note that the search function will apply to all available sets added to the template.
- You can hide the Dokio merge tags by selecting Hide Dokio merge tags that's located below the selection box
If there's no merge tag set selected and the Dokio merge tags is hidden the merge tag icon in the text field editor will be hidden too.
After completing all the steps, you can now use merge tags within a template.
